Misleading Chart by Remote-how

Your Data Is Correct But Your Chart Lies

Posted on October 20, 2019June 8, 2021 by Tomek Kaczanowski

I learned a long time ago, that facts and truth can be a different thing. How you present your facts make you a truthful person or a liar. And this is why I got into this little “flame war” on twitter because of one chart.

When looking for some information on “misleading charts” I found a bunch of good resources that you might want to look at. Check out the following links to get the knowledge that will help you to defend against all kind of misleading visualizations:

  • https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2015/06/150619-data-points-five-ways-to-lie-with-charts/
  • http://nautil.us/issue/19/illusions/five-ways-to-lie-with-charts
  • https://www.statisticshowto.datasciencecentral.com/misleading-graphs/

And never use the misleading charts yourself (and protest when others do).

I can always count on Publish public TV (which isn’t public anymore but only broadcasts what our ruling party wants) which lies in all manners possible including charts. Like this one (thx @KBlazejowska !). As you can clearly see during the rule of the one and the only righteous political option in Poland spending on healthcare grew like 5 times! Wow, this is really spectacular… No wait, they didn’t…. 🙁
